Raisin In The Sun The Universal Search for Freedom and a Better Life
When most people hear the word freedom they may think of some sort of escape from physical enslavement, the old ball and chain. And that that physical enslavement is keeping that person from seeing the bigger picture on the outside, which may inebitably limit them opportunities to possibly better themselves. Many of us share that vision of freedom however in "A Raisin in the Sun", Lorraine Hansberry discusses the mental enslavement of lead character Walter Lee Younger, who is so blinded by self-pride and material possesions that he dosent see the obvious conditions of his family. And because of this he has mentally enslaved him self and thus the play explores the universal theme -- the search for freedom and a better life (Weales, 951).
