Beowulf
In the story of Beowulf, one can see many examples of Christian influence thrown into the mix with an obvious non-Christian poem. The translator of Beowulf, Charles Kennedy, says the exact opposite, arguing that they aren’t altered phrases, that it’s “a deeply pervasive infusion of Christian spirit coloring, thought, and judgment. ... But then it turns again as Beowulf and his men “gave thanks to God for their easy crossing. ... Soon after Beowulf and his warriors arrive at Herot to speak to the king, Beowulf declares, “God must decide who will be given to death’s cold grip. ... Later, Beowulf fights with Grendel and in the middle of the battle it says, “To feud with Almighty God: Grendel saw that his strength was deserting him. ... A little bit later, Beowulf fights Grendel’s mother underwater.
