A Time To Kill
If I had a choice between being someone with "old wealth" or "new wealth", I would choose to have new wealth. I would never want to grow accustomed to having everything come easy to me all of my life. I would be living in a bubble if I had money my whole life, being aquainted only with wealthy people, eating only at rich fancy restaurants, and doing only what rich people do during their leisure time. I wouldn't know any other way of life had I lived with the security of knowing that I was rich. I believe that times of struggle and sacrifice, particularly dealing with money, contribute to the character of people. A person who has lived their whole life being wealthy would probably miss out on the opportunities to struggle with money and have to do without certain things. Although some may say that a person with "old money" would lead a much more quality and comfortable lifestyle versus those who have newly struck rich, I disagree. I believe that if you look at the personal details of one's life, not just the exterior appearance, one will find that a person who is considered "new rich" is much more apt to discover that money does not buy happiness. I think that in most cases money will not consume someone who has not always had money as easily as it would someone whose whole life was built around their money and possessions. However, this situation could easily be reversed, depending on how the money is handled be the old and new rich people.
