Oversupply of Coffee in Latin America

Many people around the world can’t go without drinking a cup of coffee at the beginning of their day or throughout the day. Coffee is a universal popular drink. “Americans, consume one fifth of the coffee produced in the world” (Hom, 2002). Coffee productions have provided employment for many Latin America farmers. “At present, low-demand-high-supply syndrome has hit the coffee industry in Latin America. This is because lower consumption of coffee has led to excess coffee inventories. And this has led to a subsequent plunge in coffee prices” (Wan, 2002). ... The current Latin America coffee crisis can be traced to four major causes: trade, oversupply, labor problems, and environmental issues.
