The use of colors on the backgrounds differs from a near strict black and white where Edward lives to bright neon and baby colors in the town below. These ascertain Edward and his world as a different “color” or race speaking he is not human. The people occupying the neighborhood notice Edward right away and are intrigued by him.
In a following scene Edward has a flashback to a time when he was working and conversing with his master.
