Nandos
Brief History
it was in Johannesburg, in a humble eatery called Chickenland that a dream was destined to become a reality in a few short years. ... Fernando and Robert became partners and, embracing all aspects of its Portuguese heritage, Nandos was born in September 1987. Today, the Nandos restaurant chain is a major success story, with stores stretching all the way from Rosettenville to Cape Town, Canada, to Australia.
To really understand Nandos is to understand the difference between what is served and what is sold. As the signature menu item, Nandos serves a Portuguese specialty - marinated, flame grilled chicken thats totally unique in taste. Fresh, A-grade chickens are butterfly-cut and marinated in Nandos secret marinade (the recipe is a carefully guarded Nandocas heirloom) for 24 hours, ensuring that the flavour goes right through to the bone. Then theyre grilled to perfection and repeatedly basted in Nandos famous sauces - Mild or Hot Peri-Peri, or Lemon & Herb (for taste-buds that dont like living dangerously) in front of the customers, on special open-flame grills.
