In the film, Lucas, the character Bruno, a football player, often teases the small, nerdy Lucas. At a school pep rally for an upcoming football game, Bruno picks a reluctant Lucas up and carries him onto stage with the rest of the football team. Lucas fails at his attempts to escape Bruno’s grasp, and as a result is put on display in front of the whole school as some sort of joke. Bruno tries to make Lucas dance and cheer, much to the delight of the crowd. Cappy, the captain of the football team, sees the sadistic nature in which Bruno is mocking Lucas and asks him to “stop playing around. ... Later in the film, Lucas, Maggie, Cappy, and Alyss, all go to the movies together.
