College is the home of many diverse groups. College has people of all ethnicities, races, religions, and color. These people pursue their career in becoming highly skilled at things such as athletics, acting, medicine, engineering and business, and more. Yet, some of these same people ignore diverse groups such as handicaps, hearing impared, and the vision impared. ... These are the people who come back to college to get a degree and claim their status. ...
In this day and age, students attend college immediately following high school. They go from junior high to high school and then off to college. ... Most of these people finally realize the value of a college degree and decide to go back to school, even though they are much older than the average college student. Although they are much older, they are still required to take the full curiculum in order to aquire their degree. And while they are required to complete the same tasks, younger students still tend to discriminate or make fun of the older students because of their age. Even though the older students come from a different generation, they should not be singled out and be left feeling alienated. Anyone can attend college to pursue their career dreams and age should not intefere with ones choice. ... Having more 25+ students around will help the younger group realize that older students are just like them. ... It will enlighten them in that all people are capable of educating themselves at any point in their life. Their is no set age to attend college and students need to be more accepting as to who are in their classes whether they are young or old. ... The older students should not feel awkward or left out of normal college activities. The 25+ students who decide to return to college already know how they will benefit from gettin their degree.
