MALI DEATH TRADITIONS AND COUSTMS Mali is mainly a Muslim country. In the religion is Islam. Many of the traditions of come from many centuries and generations. Muslims believe that the present life is only a preparation for the next existence. The corps is usually buried with in 24 hours of dieing. The belief is that the sole leaves the body the moment a person dies. The lilaha va inna illaha raziun is recited in the ear of the person before anything else takes place. Starting with the right side of the body washed to the left side. The corps is washed with a mixture of jujube leaves and camphor water. A mans body will be washed by a man and a woman’s body will be washed by a woman for obvious reasons. Children under the age of puberty may be washed by either a male or female unless above the age of puberty.
