Mummification Mummification is the preservation of a body. The body can be of any species. The mummy is usually preserved in liquid, frozen, or dried out. It can either be deliberate or a result of a natural process. The Egyptian mummies were made by drying the body. It was supposed to help the soul accomplish afterlife. They did this by covering the body with Natron, which is found in the Nile River. It is made out of a number of four salts, namely sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium chloride, and sodium sulfate. The heat of the Egyptian climate and also the mummifying chamber also helped the drying process. Tutankhamun Tutankhamun was a pharaoh who lived around 3300 years ago. His father, Akhenarten was the ruler before him. Soon after the death of Akhenarten, Tutankhamun became pharaoh. He was probably around nine at that time.
