The Bean Trees
In the novel The Bean Trees, by Barbara Kingsolver, there are many displays of associations concerning people and other livings things that need each other in order to survive and thrive. The wisteria trees need rhizoid, which are microscopic bugs that help fertilize the plant so it can carry on. The characters in The Bean Trees demonstrate a need for the help of others to survive, such as Virgie Parsons and Edna Poppy, Mattie and the refugees, as well as Taylor and Turtle. ... Almost like the bean trees and wisteria trees themselves, they cannot see but can still survive because of the help they receive from their acquaintances.
