Mel Gibson’s the Passion Before I saw Mel Gibson’s “The Passion” I was already worried about the controversy over it being anti-Semitic. However, I decided to try to view the movie with an open mind, so that I could make the judgment for myself. My first impressions after seeing the film were mixed. It was hard to deny that were very moving parts of this movie, but I just had a bad feeling after it. However, I could not pinpoint as to why I was feeling so ambivalent about the movie. As far as aesthetics, the cinematography was very well done, but that is about the best thing I can say about this movie. The first major problem I had with this movie is that the Jews are depicted like a white person in a Spike Lee movie. If I based my opinion of Jews solely on this movie I would indeed be an anti-Semite myself (of course the irony here is that I myself am Jewish).
