In today’s day and age it seems that every other child is being diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder. In fact most people I know, my friends and my family are on some type of medication for this disorder. However, despite the fact that I myself have been diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) I was surprised to find out how little I know about the disorder and/or its treatment. There are twenty million adults and children in the United States who have Attention Deficit Disorder and just about as many ways to treat or deal with the disorder. ... The first is Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder, Combined Type. This type is characterized by inattention: failure to give close attention to details leading to careless mistakes, difficulty sustaining attention in tasks – pleasurable or burdensome,

problems listening even when spoken to directly, forgetfulness of personal things and in daily activities and hyperactivity- impulsivity: fidgety hands or feet, cannot stay seated for prolonged periods of time and talks excessively and loudly. The second type is called Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder, Predominantly Inattentive type where only the above characteristics of inattention apply. Finally the third type is called Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder, Predominantly Hyperactive type where only the above criteria for hyperactivity is expressed.
