Survival For Modern Day Survivors In today’s society, survival isn’t a uncommon thing. There are many people in today’s society who have overcome tough times and survived and then become known as survivors. Survivors all have certain qualities that show their survivors. Also survivors found in today’s society and Odysseus have things that made them survive and things that helped them to survive. With all of these things mentioned even Odysseus would be considered a survivor in today’s society. To be considered a survivor today there are certain qualities that you must embody. One of the most important qualities is determination. Odysseus showed determination because even after he went through tough obstacles he just kept going and would defeat the next one that came along. Odysseus had to pull through and survive many unpleasant nights and days while he fought to save his life and to make it home. “Nine days I drifted on the teeming sea before dangerous high winds ”(Homer 898).While reading a article about a soldier whom was captured and tortured I noticed some similarities of determination she shared with Odysseus. “You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience by which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, I lived through his horror. I can take the next thing that comes along” (Dominus 125). This quote really shows that after this horrible situation she encountered she’s going to keep going and if anything else horrible happens she knows she can make it through that too.
