After buying his ticket Jhoulio found his way to his seat to watch his most recent bet on Champlane ,the most vigorous horse on the track. Most of the time he had only bet one or two hundred but today he had felt lucky and put up over two thousand dollars on the horse. Earlier he had go to one of the loan sharks and borrowed twenty five hundred dollars with the intent of making double that. The horse left the gates and was off to a spectacular start, faster and faster until he was on the last stretch. Jhoulio was jumping up and down in his chair for he now believed he was four thousand dollars richer. Champlane’s jockey was riding his full heart out and had no more energy to pull off the last hundred yard’s of the race. Cherry the runner up was bringing a full comeback and had almost gotten to the rear leg of Champlane when Champlanes jockey brought back his wipe and slashed Cherry’s jockey across the face bringing him down in an instant. Camplane crossed the finish line and the crowd went wild. Jhoulio stood one end with more energy and excitement than the winner of the race. People around him were handing over bets and others buying each other drinks when over the intercom the announcer released the shocking news that after the slashing during the race Champlane had been disqualified and had lost the race. Fight broke out between different parties in the crowed as Jhoulio shouted back with anger at the announcer that it cant be possible. Jhoulio zipped up his jacket and tried to blend in with the leaving crowed hopping to slip past the loan shark. As soon as he stepped foot out side a hand took his arm and pulled him aside.
