In the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison Sethe a former slave and the Mother of Denver and the receantly deceased Beloved is viewed by the community and those that know her as an unfit Mother, because she killed her daughter Beloved and attempted to kill her other children. ... Sethe’s memories of this cruel act of the brutality she herself suffered as a slave still follows her everyday and continue to bring back painful memories of the past and she never intended on bringing her children into the same painful and degrading world of slavery that she indued for so many years which is why she killed Beloved. ... In Beloved, although Sethe has happy moments, she is haunted from her past, wishing for a better future for her and her daughter Denver and that is what she seeks out when she moves to 124 Bluestone road. ...
In the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison the reader would find the situation that Sethe is not a good Mother to Denver very debatable. ... When Sethe was a slave she gave birth to a baby girl and whom was later named Beloved. ... She did this because she felt that during the funeral when the Pastor stated “Dearly Beloved” (Beloved 17) he was referring to her deceased child and that, that name should be engraved on the headstone. ...
The house on 124 Bluestone road was haunted by the ghost of Beloved. ... ” (Beloved 4) It was hard but Sethe still refused to move because she did not want to give up her memories of Baby Suggs. ... When Denver realizes “for a baby Beloved throws a powerful spell” (Beloved 34) she does not understand why her and her Mother can not move but Baby Suggs always said “not a house in the country ain’t packed to its rafters with some dead Negroe’s ghosts” (Beloved 5) so there really isn’t any use in running from something you will ne. If where you are living is not a good place for you and your children you should relocate but the reader believes that in a way since the ghost will always haunt the house it is a negative but easy way to never forget Beloved.
