... Regarding the issue of animal testing it can be said that because man is the measure of all things in order to ensure his survival precautions must be taken to guarantee his safety. ... However, this is assuming man is the measure of all things. According to the explanation of relativism in the text (or at least how I understand it) man is the measure of all things according to man, and that perceptions change depending on the individual. The example provided is that what may seem cold to one man may seem warm to another. As such, there really is no set measure but rather individual perceptions. That being the case, each individual animal may consider themselves to be the measure, and who is to say they would be wrong?
