A Tree that Stands Tall Abe Lincoln said that, "Character is like a tree and reputation like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.” Theodore Roosevelt said that, “ the first requisite of a good citizen in this republic of ours is that he should be able and willing to pull his weight.” These definitions of citizenship and character may not be popular belief, but they express my beliefs on the true meaning of citizenship and character very accurately. Citizenship and character contain more depth than any dictionary can put into words.
