The text “Spilled salt” is a short story published in 1990. It is about a boy called Kenny and his mother Myrna. Kenny is in Jail because he committed rape on a girl called Crystal Roberts. His mother Myrna is therefore a very ashamed woman. All the time Kenny lied about what happened, his mother believes in him. And she gets very hurt when the court finds Kenny guilty. Not only because her son is going to jail but also because he lied to her. In the beginning Myrna visits Kenny every time it is visiting day. Still she cannot believe that Kenny raped the girl, and she is looking for answers. But Kenny cannot give her any. Then Myrna gets ill, and she stops visiting Kenny. -After Kenny had confessed, Myrna spent days ………….. The text contains some social themes. Issues between the mother and her son. Myrna is disappointed on Kenny, and she cannot accept that Kenny has raped a girl, and she is searching for answers.
