Affirmative Action

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION The issue of affirmative action is one that is taken very seriously not only by our society, but by our government also. In most cases, the overall purpose of affirmative action is to create a more racially and gender diverse workplace and to prevent discrimination based on race and gender. By instituting an affirmative action plan, employers create and produce better working relationships among its employees. Affirmative action consists of actions taken to increase the number of under-represented demographic groups. (Kravitz, Platania, 298) While the entire concept of instituting affirmative action plans within most organizations is one that is meant to produce positive results, it is also a concept that has proven to be very complex and controversial within our society. Most employers implement affirmative action plans by force and not by choice. Therefore, many companies give very little to no thought at all to the affirmative action process when implementing and carrying out said plans. Also, like many other issues, affirmative action plans are often not enforced due to the fact that those who are in charge of enforcing the affirmative action often allow their personal feelings to affect their professional judgment. Overall, one can conclude that like most other concepts, the concept of affirmative action can indeed prove to be an asset to any company or organization if it is properly instituted and conducted. Also, as with most other concepts, there is no one universally correct way of instituting and conducting procedures for affirmative action. ...
