Dadi s Family
Dadi, which means grandmother, is the head of her household. She, Dada and the members of their extended family, all help to run their farm in India. Her family is Hindu and she and all the generations before her have generally adhered to the traditions of their culture and religion. ... In Dadi’s culture, when a son of the family marries, he brings his wife to live with him in his mother’s home. This is similar to the Rashaayda Bedouin, who camp, migrate and work with their sons and their son’s families. Yet, each individual Rashaayda family has its own tent and many other unrelated families might also camp and migrate with each other. ... If a son doesn’t work on the farm, but gets a job in the city, he still sends his wages back home to the family. In Dadi’s generation, it was the mother-in-law who kept family order and she always tried to treat her daughters-in-law as her own children.
