Honor Bedouain Society
People across the world describe honor in many forms. They say there is honor in saving someone’s life, delivering a baby, or even teaching a class. The definition of honor is esteem due or paid to worth; high estimation; respect; consideration; reverence; veneration; manifestation of respect or reverence. But what really is honor? ... "Honor" does not denote a quality distinct from these others. ... Yet the heart and soul of honor is to be committed to the underlying values, to give them a place of priority in our thoughts and actions, and to be faithful to them in all areas of our lives. The question before us as a class was to compare and contrast American ideals of honor to that of the Bedouin society. The Bedouin peoples live by a simply defined code of honor. Possessing honor is not a matter of self-declaration but public acknowledgment. A man’s honor is determined by his family origin, bravery, piety, generosity, wealth, and power.
