The 2001 NBAA Convention attracted more than 11,000 people and played host to more than 600 exhibitors. This year’s event focused on the lively forum of aviation security. Due to the recent events on September 11th, the show featured several seminars and discussion boards focusing on this topic. The discussion panels were moderated by industry experts such as Dr. John Lauber, Vice President of Safety for Airbus Industries. Another popular attraction at this years show, were the many exhibitors demonstrating their latest aircraft security equipment. As part of the conventions opening ceremonies, FAA Associate Administrator for Air Traffic Services, Steve Brown, discussed what has been learned about security since the September 11th attacks. The show also featured cutting-edge technology such as “Anywhere Dispatch”, which allows the dispatcher to select different geographic locations and provide the pilot with valuable terrain specific navigational information during flight.
