The book, “1984” by George Orwell, is very interesting. In this novel, there’s a lot of brainwashing and torture. This book has a lot of different irony. The story of this novel, “1984,” is about Winston Smith, at the state of Oceania. He is a member of the Party ruling Oceania. In that Party, there’s a dictatorship that is Big Brother. Winston has been living a lonely life in London before the Party took over following with a revolution. There are strict rules for the Party members. Winston Smith is an intelligent and a very sensitive person. He started hating everything about the Party. He knows that he can’t just say whatever he wants because that means death. One day, he met this young girl named Julia. She helped Winston Smith and became his ally. Julia hates everything about the party, too. The police arrested both of them because they thought that they’re together. At the end, Winston was released and while he was listening to the news, he heard that the Oceania’s victory over Africa, he was shot while he was sitting at the Chestnut Tree Café. This book had a lot of examples of the use or abuse of power like, understand that there are different kinds of power, understand the effect that systems can have on power, and Be aware of how tempting it is for well-intentioned people to abuse power.
