Opposing Settings in Jane Eyre
In the novel Jane Eyre, Jane is an ambitious, headstrong, and intelligent young woman. The idea of a loving family is very important to Jane; she is constantly looking for acceptance and equality with the people she meets. There are two settings that present the extremes of Jane’s quest to find her family: her aunt’s house at Gateshead, and Thornfield, where she meets Mr. ... Gateshead is the house where Jane spends the first ten years of her life. It is by no means a cheerful place for Jane.
