Oedipus the King
Oedipus the King, written by Sophocles, is one of the most dramatic plays of all the Greek tragedies. Taking place in Thebes, the main character, Oedipus, was faced with the duty of finding the previous king’s murderer. ... Oedipus should be held accountable for the cause of his father, king Laius’s murder. The story builds up from this event, making Oedipus also responsible for his mother, Jocasta’s, suicide and his own suffering in the end. Oedipus is guilty of causing all the death and suffering in the play.
Given up as a child, Oedipus gets taken in by the king of Corinth. Growing up as the prince of Corinth and unaware of the truth, Oedipus was told by the god Apollo that he would be his father’s killer and was to be coupled with his mother.
