Jewish Funeral For the First Time

A couple months ago my friend Heather was killed in a car accident on the parkway, was only eighteen, and Jewish. I knew her my whole life and I had to attend the funeral. Being that heather was Jewish, I felt a little awkward attending the funeral, but I had to pay my respect. The way that I found out about the funeral was not by reading the obituaries in the newspaper, but by word of mouth. With my friend, her family was a very strict Jewish family and she had to be buried as fast as possible; their family chose the following day. Up to this point, I had only been to a Roman Catholic funeral and I was used to going to a funeral home for the wake, sometimes one or two days, and then the third day being the funeral and burial; with a church ceremony. With this funeral, the following day I had to go to the Jewish chapel where at first when I got there with my friend, we Both walked in, didnt realize that we were supposed to grab a Yamaha whether you Were Jewish or not, and then went inside and sat down.
