Conformity and Authority Conformity and Authority involves basically how people will respond to certain forms of authority, weather it be simple non strict, or pain inflicting, strict dictatorship, e.g. Hitler and the Nazi group. Stanley Milgram worked in the field of Social Psychology, and made his own experiment to determine how much pain an everyday person would inflict on another person when told to by a scientist. The way these experiments are set up, is as follows: • Two people will be called to visit a psychology laboratory to test the study of the memory and learning. One is designated as the teacher and one of them is designated as the learner. • The learner is strapped into a chair, similar to an electric chair, but obviously not as harsh, and its only to prevent sudden movements. The subject is then asked a series of word pairs, and that he will be tested on how well he can remember the second pair of the word, after the first part is said by the scientist.
