In Chapter 7 of part 1 to Chapter 2 of part 2 in the novel 1984, Winston undergoes a few things. Winston continues to write in this diary about the proles. He wonders if the proles would ever “wake up”. He talks about an incident he remembers when two women were first sharing a moment of misery with each other and then all of a sudden, they start fighting. Winston also talks about how the Party and the proles affect each other. He thinks that the Party liberated the proles from capitalism and at the same time, lets the proles continue living outside of the Party’s strict moral and behavioral dictates.
