With so many ambiguous laws, many people are confused as to what is legal and what is not when embarking on a hunt for the latest and greatest music. Since so little major label music is available legally on the internet, music fans are left with the question: “What is permitted in copying and sharing digital music?” With this question in mind, the future of online music is a bit cloudy. ... Throughout this speech on copying and sharing digital music, I will be speaking about the history of illegal downloading of copyrighted music, including the copyright laws concerning the issue, and the pros and cons of several of the most popular sites to download music. ... The history of copying and sharing digital music begins in June 1999, when Shawn Fanning launched a new program that was to change how many people used the internet: Napster.
