Diego Rivera
Diego Rivera’s art is very innovative. He was one of Mexico’s most important artists of the twentieth century. He believed that his art should teach people about history. Though he is well recognized for his outstanding paintings, he is best known for his great murals. He pioneered huge murals on walls and buildings. By doing murals, he could display his art to the people. He lived during the Mexican Revolution, and it was his ambition to artistically portray the ideas and events of the Mexican Revolution. He did this with his fresco technique. Another aspect of his art is that it is very political. Because his political views show in some of his artwork, it can be considered very controversial. He believed that art has a social function, so, therefore, it is political. One of Diego Rivera’s greatest works is his Mural at City College in San Francisco.
