The Bad Boy
The story is about a girl who tells us about how she sees her older, and retarded sister, named Geraldine, her family, and her sister’s friend Larry. ... I also think that the community they live in is quite religious, because the narrator tells us how bad a boy Larry is, because he doesn’t go to masses every Sunday. ... She won’t see the possibility of them being in love with each other, and if Larry was a bad boy this chance could perhaps change him. But because of Larry’s bad reputation the mother doesn’t want Geraldine to be near him at all, so she begins locking all the doors and windows from the inside, so Geraldine can’t go out to see him anymore. ...
Larry is “the bad boy”. He never goes to mass, which obviously is a very bad thing in this community, and the narrator tells us, when we hear he died, that he was known to have a lot of children with many different women. ... ”
I think the girls found him fascinating because of his “bad boy” style, and in some way he managed to be a nice and charming man. He is also a member of the cockle-gang that I think is a part of his bad boy attitude.
