USING LASER TECHNOLOGY IN MEDICINE Development in technology brings new techniques that are used in different areas. One of these areas which is affected by the development in technology is medicine. New treatment methods provide a quick and safe healing process compared to old classical methods. Using laser technology is one of these new methods that people do not trust because they think they can be dangerous. Some people think that laser technology should not be used in medicine. Although laser surgery is considered as hazardous by some scientific experts, it does not endanger human life and should be used in every area. Dental surgery is the first area in which laser technology should be used. In cavity treatment lasers help minimize pain and discomfort. Classical methods in cavity treatment lead patients feel high amount of pain and much anesthesia should be used for decreasing this pain. Also laser energy decreases the number of bacteria found in dental decay and enhances the tooth’s ability to heal in deep cavity situations. Lasers can make the things, which are being done by human hand in classical methods, in a safer way. “Lasers are more sensitive than the human eye in picking up tiny pit and fissure cavities” (Allen,2002). Lasers do not have a drill sound while working and do not cause much bleeding and these factors help patient relax and not feel anxiety.
