"In our struggle against poverty it is not recommended we do away with wealth and, in this struggle for clean air, should not be encouraged to repeal the industrial revolution." While sticking firmly to their positions, each side had an understanding of the other’s point of view. Nonetheless, natural capitalists would have a difficult time siding completely with either side. Natural capitalists would view those who supported the resolution (i.e. the capitalists) as a threat to the environment. At the same time, natural capitalists are interested in economic growth – a concern that does not bear much significance in the environmentalists’ agenda. During the debate, Jerry Brown, representing those against the resolution, insisted on the need for alternative fuel resources in order to better protect the environment. His counterparts scoffed at the idea. Their position was that burning fossil fuels was inescapable and that the regulations in place were good enough to protect the environment.
