The Study of Narcolepsy Narcolepsy is caused by central nervous system. The central nervous system is known as the "highway" of nerves. “It is a life long illness that affects about one in every 2000” (Stanford). It sends the messages from your brain to other parts of your body. The problem with people that have narcolepsy is that the messages that are about sleeping and waking up sometimes go the wrong way and go to the wrong place at the wrong time. Narcolepsy is a life long disease. It is a disorder that is known by its sudden and uncontrollable drowsiness attacks of sleep that occur unexpectingly. This experience can last minutes or even hours, there can be a few or many of them in one single day. The average time of the sleepiness ranges from 30 seconds to a half hour.
