After Langston made his choice, he realized he had deceived not only himself, but also everyone in the church. ... Even though adolescence is usually the time in many Americans’ lives for deciding who you want to be and choosing if you want to follow in your parents’ footsteps, little Langston, however, was not ready to make this decision. ... ” Langston’s literal interpretation of this was not his fault; no one actually told him that he might not actually ever see Jesus. Langston knew how important religion was to his family and to the people he cared about, and it thus made it important to him also. ...
The huge revival at Langston’s Auntie Reed’s church is something that still commonly takes place in churches trying to spread their gospel of what they believe in to those who they call lost. Auntie Reed had talked about this revival to Langston and the preacher and entire church had been preaching, singing, and praying for weeks. The built up excitement of the revival to save all the sinners and make the church membership grow put extreme pressure on not only Langston, but all the young children in the church that night as the preacher called all the “young lambs to the fold.
