Tonight, we are very fortunate to have, inarguably, one of Australiaˇ¦s best jockeys, if not our best and well-known jockey, with us today. Winning his first Melbourne Cup in 1990 on Kingston Rule, and reliving that winning moment in 1996 on Saintly, he has, at home, many trophies at home that any mum or dad, trainer will be proud of. His () (autobiography) Daylight Ahead, has achieved acclamation and recognition worldwide. The story of his sudden premature end of a truly remarkable career in horse-racing, following an awe-inspiring spiritual encounter that changed his life, has been listed as a must-read by critics. He is our very own Darren Beadman. 1. Darren, welcome to 60 minutes. Who made you the person you are? Well, thereˇ¦re quite a few people I would like to thank publicly. Doubtlessly, God is one of them. I gave my life to Him. Before, I did not have a clue what on earth was meant by committing to Christ. What did it mean to have Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour? Read pg. 52: Now I understand: it means to let Him be the great trainer, to take your place as an apprentice to Him. Theo Green, the Boss, was a great man who taught me lifeˇ¦s important values ˇV loyalty, respect, and faith. He led me to the top of my profession. I also thank Bart Cummings for providing the numerous opportunities which largely led to my success, and the amount of time, effort and support he generously gave to me. And last but not least, I would really like to thank Kim, my wife, for being there, and for giving me the emotional and mental support when I most needed it, especially after my unjust disqualification in Hong Kong, which drove me almost to suicide at the time.
