Why We Need To Materialize
Materialism, defined by Webster, is the " preoccupation with or emphasis on material
objects, comforts, and consideration, as opposed to spiritual or intellectual values ("Materialism"
pg 818). ... People state that materialism is a detriment to society but without it, the United
States would not be as prosperous as it is today.
Materialism is a mind set that everybody possess, even though some might not think that
they do. Materialism is not just a trait of the rich like some think, it is also in the people that are
not so fortunate in the means of money. ... In the poor peoples case it is more for their ego, but still materialism is there. ... Celebrities, also known as the
leisure class, are the worst at stating that materialism is not a trait that they possess. If we think
materialism in this way, would we believe that Tara Reid or Jennifer Garner would date a good-
looking guy that had nothing except for the clothes on his back? ... This is materialism at its best. ...
James Twitchell, is his writing "Two Cheers for Materialism," thinks of materialism as a
necessity to life. Before even reading this writing a person could conclude that Twitchell was in
favor of materialism just by the title of his work. ... He
did not directly mention the word materialism in his works "World Cities and World Beat,"but
some of his writing show the effects of materialism in it. ... This is also materialism, just in a different sense of
the word.
I am just as guilty as the next person when it comes to materialism. ... Materialism is a huge influence on our capital
economy, but still people do not realize this because everyone thinks that they are perfect and
could do no wrong. Without materialism our economy would never increase because there would
be no gain in capital if everybody bought the cheaper brands of clothing and other items that
people need to live.

people feel the need to explore a new country and the benefits that this new country may offer. ...
