The Bible as an Andocentric Piece of Literature
The Bible is in my opinion, the greatest book ever written. ... It is my belief that The Holy Spirit of God inspired apostles, disciples and other men to write the Bible, so the rest of the world for ever more, could have the tool to learn more about God and His everlasting salvation. In this Holy Literature, there are stories telling of God’s servants who have taught His Law. ... Although the Bible provides the meaning of life and a promise of the after life to many, some people feel that the Bible is male-centered and therefore andocentric. Through the hands of a Christian woman, this essay will discuss the Bible as an andocentric piece of literature in a positive light with relation to the history of the writing and transcribing, the nominal mention of Christian women when compared to men in the Bible and the role and purpose of women ordained in the Bible. ... However, in respect to the overall ‘making’ of the Bible from beginning to end it has been in my opinion, the responsibility of men to partake in this duty because God chose men to be His theological leaders. Initially, the Bible started by oral repetition of different men’s stories and during this time women were often absent due to child and household duties. ... The scrolls were then transcribed and later in history packaged in a book later named the Bible. Because the “Academic interpreters of the Bible have been for the most part men… and women have been excluded either by law or by custom from officially interpreting the Bible” the view will be andocentric, however, they were only writing what God inspired them to write, and therefore this word ‘andocentric’ cannot be viewed negatively (Schussler Fiorenza, (1994) p. ... God chose men to be leaders and therefore gave them the most important duty of writing literature that would be read by mankind forever more, until His return again.
