hitlers rise to power.
In Landsberg prison Hitler reminisced on the failure of the 1923 “putsch”. Hitler decided that armed force was no longer an option in gaining political power and had realised that the Nazi party could only gain support by legal means. However, after Hitler’s release in 1924 the nazi party had been split into factions and the membership of the party was decreasing. The atmosphere of crisis formed in the earlier years of the republic had lead to a period of political and economic calm. Hitler refounded the nazi party in February 1925 but due to mixed opinions in the way the party should have been run, the party was now divided in a number of ways. In the years leading up to the great depression the nazi party started to take proper shape, the amount of members increased drastically from 27,000 members in 1925 to 72,000 members in 1927. New nazi organisations were formed: the SS who were sworn to absolute obedience by the fuehrer and the Hitler Youth, formed to condition children in the art of war from a very young age.
