Great Essay
“Race in Canada” Canada, a country stretching from the Atlantic to the Pacific, is a nation built upon the traditions and cultures of different races. From Chinese to Ukrainian, Irish to Scots, all have a historical effect on our country – some more positive then others. Bringing immigrants into our country has always been a hot topic of political debate, as stated in Ken MacQueen’s essay “Opening the Doors”. He speaks of the fears that immigrants will affect our economy negatively. He explains the old school thought of selective immigration. In allowing immigration in Canada, we have received not only the so-called “profitable” immigrants with skills, but also those who society looks down upon. With the rejection of immigrates, based on their talents and not on the value of a human life; one can see why early Canadian immigrants felt so alienated and apart from the rest of the Canadian society.
