During the first encounter of hunting, Francis is very scared of the lion. When Wilson asks Francis to go in after the lion, Francis says “I’d like to, I’m just scared, you know” (485). Macomber did end up going into the forest after the lion, but as the narrator states about Francis after he went in, “The next thing he knew he was running; running wildly, in panic in the open, running toward the stream” (486).
