How can we develop effective communication patterns within and across cultures? We can develop better cross-cultural communication by reducing our ethno-centrism, being mindful of other cultural methods of communication and recognizing as well as understanding cultural differences. We can also avoid violating cultural rules and customs. To improve communication within culture clarity and the reduction of noise is necessary. It is important for both sides of the communication spectrum to be aware and cognitive of “each other”. Messages need to be made clear when communicating within a culture. How does our cultural baggage manifest itself in our communication barrier? Our cultural baggage serves as a barrier in communication.
