Alonzo Mourning II was born in Chesapeake, Virginia on February 8, 1970 to Alonzo Sr. and Julia Mourning. When Alonzo was 12 years old his parents were divorced, and they were unable to come to an agreement as to who should take care of him. Ultimately, they chose to put Alonzo in a foster home that was managed by a woman named Fanny Threet. ... Alonzo described himself as "clumsy" and "awkward" in high school, and did not decide to play basketball until he was in junior high. ...
