Lord of the Flies Character Analysis
A person’s personality reflects the type of individual they portray. In the Lord of the Flies, William Golding uses characters to demonstrate different concepts in the novel. The main characters who represent these concepts in the novel are Piggy, Jack, and Simon. The boys represent the various characteristics that make up humanity. Piggy is one of the boys stranded on the island who makes a large impact in the novel. At first glance, Piggy seems to be a pudgy, whinny boy, although his intellectual side shines through. Piggy represents the scientific, rational side of civilization. He suggests to the boys: “A fire could be built on them rocks. On the sand, even. We’d make smoke just the same” (129).
