Assigning Copyright Ownership
As two of my paintings have been selected for purchase, the copyright of the images is being asked. For this reason, I have done some research on the Canadian Copyright Law to become aware of some questions, which might be asked about copyright and my work. The contract should clarify the ownership of the pieces, as well as the benefit I am entitled to, and the required statements are information that should be included in the contract. These contents are all associated with the Copyright Act, which protects the rights of publishers, writers, artists, web professionals, filmmakers, teachers, librarians, archivists, lawyers and business people. Copyright is the sole right of an individual to produce, reproduce, perform or publish any literary, dramatic musical or artistic work, and to allow or disallow permission to reproduce or utilize their works. (Harris 1) My art pieces are work that protected under the Copyright Act. ... In the contract, the most important aspect is the ownership of the work. The ownership of the work is vital because it determines who has control over the work and who is entitled to remuneration from. ... The general rule of ownership in the Copyright Act is which states that should be the original ordinary of the copyright.
