Through the life of a woman
Jenn Holdren Eng Comp 2 2/29/04 Through the Life of a Woman In the poems, “Barbie Doll”, by Marge Percy, and “Mother of the Groom”, by Seamus Heaney, both of the poems represent a real aspect of today’s society. ... Also through these poems we see how a woman’s ideals change throughout her life, and this is where their differences lie. They are different due to the fact that they each take place at a different time in a woman’s life, and as the reader, we see how women deal with the pressures of society that come with their age. There is also the sense of how women’s morals and ideals change throughout their life. ... ”, which is basically like a slap in the face to her, because what she strived for in life, she could only achieve in death (Piercy l 23). ... This happens everyday in today’s society, that a mother must watch her child walk down the aisle to a new and more independent life, one where she is no longer the one who picks him up when he falls. And this is portrayed extremely well through this poem. ... Now, both of these poems represent a different time in a woman’s life, and with these poems we can see how a woman’s ideals and values change throughout her life.
