Joan of Arc

Throughout this paper the reader will be exposed to similarities, differences, contrasts and comparisons, a discussion, and comments from my point of view about both Saint Joan by Shaw, and Joan of Arc by Pernoud. ... At last, another item that is very similar is the way in which Charles the Dauphin allows Joan to take over command of the army so easily. ... Another similarity is shown in the way that he and Joan talk about control of the army; he is very easy going and listens to everything that she has to say, and then makes what seems to be a very wise decision in handing control over to Joan. ... An excellent example of this is the way Joan persuades him to let her take control of the army. In Pernoud’s book, Joan has to go through a set of interviews just to be able to talk to the king; whereas in Shaw’s version she walked in, spotted him, and right away begins to talk to him. ... It is like he is taking the first big step by taking command away from La Tremouille and giving it to Joan. ... Also towards the end of the reading, Pernoud brings up that the king had been shaken up by a few comments that Joan mentioned to him because he didn’t know if they had been made by a witch or a saint; perhaps this is setting the tone for a big surprise further into the book.
