1.Write a short summary of the article. The article which is titled “Postcards from hell” written by Robert Manne shows us how the asylum seekers live and how they are treated. On August 26 2001, until November of that year, 1155 asylum seekers were transported to Nauru and 356 to Manus Island. This article shows us an everyday life of an asylum seeker and how terrible the living conditions are. The article demonstrates despair of the detainees and shows the loss of hope of these detainees. 2.What is the main contention of this article. The main contention of this article is that Robert Manne wants to show the disgusting and terrifying way these asylum seekers are living. He gives us examples to back up his point of view. He uses emotive language such as “Abandoned detainees” and the writer is persuading us to see how these detainees live.
