JC Goes To Church Sometimes in life, ideas can come to us in the most unexpected ways. For this project, the idea of observing a church came from my girlfriend Lauren. Ever since we’ve been going out, she has constantly tried to make me visit her church. She has been going to the same church since the day she was born and wanted me to experience her other life. The fact is I have not been to church since I was about 12. ... What better place to observe Communication Processes than at church. ... Manalo established the Church of Christ on July 27, 1914 in the Philippines. From then on, the church has grown almost 90 years later to over seventy countries and territories around the world. ... That is what the Church of Christ represents as a whole. ... Furthermore, as I adjusted to life as a guest member for two weeks, many activities, including worship services, further enriched my knowledge of their church and the brethren’s daily activities. The Church of Christ provides a great atmosphere, through its kind heart and generosity, for people of all nationalities to worship and serve God. Being the ethnographer, I noticed quite easily that the Church of Christ believes in worshipping God in cleanliness and orderliness. The church has their daily service on Sunday’s and Thursday’s. ... There is a set structure, created by the Church Administration that the church follows and the brethren, from what I observed, followed accordingly. ... The church actually encourages it as it allows brethren to step away from their shell and speak up if they need anything. ... Communication is the key to success, and is vastly encouraged in the church. ... The finance and secretariats take care of the financial and organizational/paperwork part of the church, respectively. ... The secretariats handle all the paperwork that deals with the brethren and the church. Handling the paperwork of the church can be a very complicated process; for that, I have a lot of respect for them. ... This form dubs that one is an official member of the church and is taken very seriously. ... Most important thing to remember is, in the Church of Christ, all decision-making ultimately goes to the minister who has final say in all matters. The communication of the church is also very similar to Heath’s Stakeholder’s Theory as everything is divided so that everyone and everything can be handled and situated in an orderly way. The church, as a whole, is situated so that any time, any place, any locale can communicate with the main office, which is located in Manila, Philippines.
